Tennis/Golfer’s Elbow
Golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow are common conditions that can cause pain and discomfort in the elbow and forearm. Despite their names, both conditions can affect individuals who participate in a wide range of activities, not just golfers and tennis players.
Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis): This condition refers to the inflammation or irritation of the tendons that attach to the elbow’s medial epicondyle (inner side). It commonly occurs due to repetitive gripping and twisting motions, leading to pain and tenderness on the inner side of the elbow.
Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis): Tennis elbow, on the other hand, affects the tendons that attach to the elbow’s lateral epicondyle (outer side). It is caused by repetitive extension and contraction of the wrist and forearm muscles, leading to pain and tenderness on the outer side of the elbow.
How Chiropractic Care & Other Approaches May Help
Our chiropractors are skilled at diagnosing and addressing musculoskeletal conditions, including golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow. They take a holistic approach to healthcare, addressing the root causes of the problem rather than just managing the symptoms.
Our doctors can perform precise adjustments to the spine and affected joints to restore proper alignment, reduce inflammation, and relieve pressure on the affected tendons. These adjustments help promote healing and improve overall joint function.
Various soft tissue techniques, such as myofascial release, can reduce muscle tension, break down scar tissue, and improve blood flow to the affected area.
- Cold laser therapy: This modality helps to stimulate the repair of tissues at the cellular level while reducing inflammation, pain and swelling.
- Dry needling: Acupuncture needles are used to stimulate precise points in the body, promoting increased blood flow and helping relieve pain.
- Exercise Rehabilitation: Our chiropractors can also recommend some exercise programs to strengthen the muscles surrounding the elbow, improving stability and reducing the risk of future injuries. These exercises can be performed both in our practice and at home.
